Brittany "Tru" Campbell is a mother of three awesome boys, Kylan, Kashawn, and Kaleo and is married to her wonderful wife Kelly. Tru is a well known Doula and Yoga instructor throughout the St. Louis Area and advocate for expectant mothers, fathers and children. She was drawn to Traditional Spirituality and Yoga in 2006 while on a quest for inner peace and her meaning to life. It all started with a book she stumbled upon at her local library while dealing with post-partum depression. It was unknown to her at the time, that she would soon be teaching for that very Library in her future.
After a year of studying at home, she began taking Yoga classes in her local town. Tru was noticed quite often for her immense flexibility and ability to powerfully progress deeper in each Yoga class. During this time she also found her confidence to start her own Business "My Tru Soul"selling Neo-Soul music, books, and oils. This later spun into her creating her own line of jewelry and body products. Two of Tru's Yoga instructors encouraged her to teach and recommended her to study with Jaime Sanchez from Venezuela, a Yoga pioneer in the St. Louis area. Tru traveled to Canada to learn more about herself and Yoga and returned back home ready to teach. She began to volunteer at the St. Louis County Library teaching Yoga to the community while she completed her studies.
Shortly after Tru graduated from Yoga teachers training in 2010, she gained a paid contract with the Library to continue teaching not only for the community but also for the employees of the Library system. Tru's business transformed into Tru Irie Creations reflecting her many gifts to create a sense of health and wellness. Since then Tru has taught health and wellness seminars, and has held women's empowerment circles at various institutions while traveling vastly in her profession.
Tru's life in traditional birthing began after having her second son Kashawn in 2005. After her second C-Section she committed herself to learning more about healthy and natural birthing practices. She went on to study the wisdom of Midwives and Doula's. Tru became pregnant in 2011 and soon realized her dream of having a homebirth with a black midwife could not become a reality because there were no black midwives in St. Louis. She found a team of amazing homebirth midwives and successfullly gave birth to her third son Kaleo naturally at home (HBAC3), which was her first natural delivery with no interventions! Tru felt empowered and wanted to do more to help other women who faced similar circumstances as she did. She wanted to become the black midwife that her community needed so much. She was invited by Sabayet Inc. to attend a Midwifery workshop in Dutch Komenda, Ghana, West Africa in March 2013 for a two-week stay. Tru traveled back to Africa in June 2013 for a four month cultural intensive in spirituality and midwifery in Elimna, Ghana, West Africa. She stayed in a local village and also camped on a beach where she taught Yoga and Reiki to travelers.
In 2014 Tru opened her doors to The Cosmic Grove her business that centers itself on women's health care for the expectant mother and family. Tru was recently accepted to attend the Midwives College of Utah (MCU) and received the Brianna Blackwelder Equal Access Scholarship covering her full tuition. Tru is on her path of obtaining her Associates Degree in Science of Midwifery in becoming a Certified Professional Midwife. She enjoys assisting mothers along their birthing journey as a Doula, hiking, camping, reading and hosting Natural Childbrithing classes for women in St. Louis communities.
In 2015 Tru founded the Community Birth & Wellness Center a Non-Profit organiziation with her Doula partner . Through her organization, Tru has teamed up with numerous local and statewide organizations to provide quality & accessible midiwifery care and education to the North County & City area of St. Louis.
