Get it Wild: Red Clover for Fertility

red clover.jpg

Happy Monday beautiful people! We're on our fifth day of my Midwifery Education campaign and I'm so gracious for the support and donations.

Today I spent time in nature surrounded by Red Clover growing wild. Red Clover is a well known herb for fertility enchancement. It grows all over St. Louis, Missouri and across our nation. It is often mistaken as a weed and overlookeed despite it's amazing properties. It has great circulation properties to aid in stimulating blood flow to the reproductive system. Red Clover is a very effective blood cleanser and is wonderful for pregnancy preparation, aiding in detoxification of environmental pollutants prior to conception. I would definitely consider preparing a tea of Red Clover with a pinch of peppermint before conceiving. Red Clover is a herb that Susan Weed considers “the single most useful herb for establishing fertility” and it has health benefits for most people.

Benefits of Red Clover:

  • It has a high vitamin content that supports the uterus

  • High in protein to aid the entire body

  • Contains easily absorbed calcium and magnesium (supports the nervous system)

  • Also has a high mineral content (due to super deep roots)

  • Alkalizes the body

  • Four isoflavones are found in red clover; formononetin, biochanin A, daidzein, and genistein, which have mild estrogenic activity. These may alter hormone production, metabolism, intracellular enzymes, cell production, and growth factors. (this is also an area where one study finds benefits, one may find negative effects.)

  • Helps to clear mucous in the body

  • It also has antibiotic properties and is effective against many strains of bacteria.

  • It’s a liver stimulant and activates the gallbladder, may have a slightly laxative effect.

  • Also used as a nerve tonic to calm a person.

  • Known as a female tonic to strengthen the ovaries

How to pick Red Clover growing in your yard:

Harvesting Red Clover is very simple and rewarding. First ask the plant permission to harvest it. Once you feel the plant has connetcted with you, you can then ask the plant to assist you with cleansing your body and increasing fertility. Then simply pick the blossoms using your thumb and pointer finger; grasping the stem of the flower bud. Gently yet thoroughly rinse the buds off and dry under the sun for 1 day.

Preparing Red Clover Tea:

For each cup of water gather 1 tsp of Red Clover blossom to 1/8 tsp of Peppermint leaves. Bring your water to a boil, turn of the fire, pour in your herbs, place the top onto the pot, and allow the herbs to steep 8 hours or overnight. Strain and enjoy!!

As an herbalist and black Midwife I wish to bring this knowledge to women in our community. Having holistic care from the start will aid in having a healthy strong pregnancy and birth. Support me today with words, financial support or by sharing the mission that black midwives matter!
